Die Cut vs Vinyl Stickers
One is the cut. The other is the material. Most orders are both.
Die cut and vinyl are not alternatives, which is why comparing them is confusing. Die cut describes how the sticker is cut, meaning the blade follows the outline of your design instead of a circle or a square. Vinyl describes what the sticker is printed on. A die-cut vinyl sticker is both at once, and it is the most common thing people order.

| What choosing it changes | The silhouette of the finished sticker. | The feel, and how the colour reads. |
| Can you have both | Yes. Pick the shape. | Yes. Pick the material. |
| On a Nacpac order | One of four shapes. | One of four materials. |
Why the question comes up at all
Most sticker shops put shapes and materials in one long menu, so die cut ends up listed beside vinyl as though you had to choose. You do not. Every sticker has a shape and a material, and you are always picking one of each, whether or not the shop makes that clear. Once you see that, the question answers itself: you are not deciding between die cut and vinyl, you are deciding what shape you want and what you want it printed on.
What die cut actually means
The cut follows your artwork. Upload a logo of a bee and the sticker is bee-shaped, rather than a bee inside a square. The alternative is not vinyl, it is a standard shape: a circle, a square or a rectangle. Those cost the same here and are often the better pick for a product label, where a neat rectangle on a jar reads cleaner than a traced outline.
What vinyl actually means
Vinyl is the standard sticker material, and the default on a Nacpac order. The alternatives are clear film, which prints with no white background so only your design shows, holographic, which throws a rainbow that shifts as it tilts, and chrome, a mirror-metal finish. Material is the one thing nobody can judge from a screen, which is why the sample pack exists.
So which should you order
If the shape of your design is the point, pick Die Cut. If you are labelling a jar, a box or a bottle, a circle or a rectangle usually looks better and wastes less of the sticker. Then pick the material separately, and vinyl is the right default unless you have a reason to want clear, holographic or chrome. The price updates as you change either one, so you can try the combinations before you commit.
Questions, answered
- Is a die cut sticker more expensive than a vinyl one?
- That is not the comparison. Shape and material are priced separately, and on a Nacpac order the four shapes cost the same as each other. What moves the price is size, print finish and quantity. The configurator shows the number before you upload anything.
- Can I have a die cut sticker that is not vinyl?
- Yes. Any of the four shapes can be printed on any of the four materials, so a die-cut holographic sticker or a die-cut clear sticker is a normal order.
- Do you need my artwork to cut a custom shape?
- Yes, for Die Cut we trace the outline from your design, so a plain background gives the cleanest cut line. If the background is not distinct enough to trace, we fall back to a safe rectangle and tell you. We never swap the shape silently.
- What is the smallest order?
- Fifty pieces for individually cut stickers. The price per sticker drops at 100, 250 and 500, and the configurator shows each step before you commit to one.
- Is the price GST-inclusive?
- Yes. The price you see at checkout is the price you pay, with no tax line added at the end.
